Posted April 18, 2016

Haywood Community College Continuing Education Creative Arts is thrilled to announce that blacksmith Elizabeth Brim will be teaching a three day class in May: Blacksmithing for Jewelers: Hammer and Heat.

Accomplished Blacksmith Elizabeth Brim, an instructor at Penland School of Crafts, is perhaps best known for feminine imagery in her ironwork. In May she will be teaching a blacksmithing course specifically designed for jewelry makers at Haywood Community College. In Blacksmithing for Jewelers: Hammer and Heat, students will learn basic blacksmithing techniques such as bending, scrolling, splitting and torch welding steel. The scale of these techniques may be adjusted to suit a variety of artistic endeavors. Working in iron, students will leave with an understanding of blacksmithing techniques and samples to take home and apply to their own work. This class will occur over three days beginning Sunday, May 22 through Tuesday May 24th, from 10 am to 6 pm. Please register by May 6th.

Haywood Community College Continuing Education Creative Arts offers continuing education classes and workshops in clay, fiber, metals, wood, and music as well as design and computer classes. These classes are year-round and open to the public.
