Beginning Jewelry Fabrication 1

In this 10-week course, students will acquire working knowledge of jewelry and fabrication skills. Students will design and fabricate pieces in the studio and are encouraged to explore and examine contemporary trends in jewelry and metalsmithing through the study of working jewelry makers. The course will cover techniques commonly used in jewelry and metalsmithing, including sawing, piercing, sanding and filing, forming, oxidation, basic stone setting and finishing. These techniques are explored and executed through the creation of individual projects, such as a textured and pierced cuff bracelet, a pair of stud or dangle earrings, and a sterling silver pendant with a bezel set stone. Instructor: Greta Lutman
