Forging a Japanese Hammer

Forging a Japanese Hammer

This style hammer is also known as a cutler’s hammer and a dog’s head hammer.  The unique design makes it perfect for forging the bevels on a knife blade. It’s ergonomic shape allows for accurate forging and reduces arm fatigue.  In this course we will punch and drift the eye, forge the head, heat treat, and haft the handle so that each student leaves with a finished hammer. Instructor: Matthew Shirey
