Forging Axes

August 28

Forging Axes

When men and women like Daniel and Rebecca Boone headed west to build a new life on the frontier the belt axe was an essential part of their kit.  For collecting firewood, creating shelter, and carving utensils a hatchet is the perfect tool.  In this course we will forge a Kentucky Belt Axe from a block of 4140 carbon steel.  if time allows students may attempt a second axe of whatever design they choose. Instructor: Matthew Shirey
