Surface Design with Natural Dyes: In this course, students will learn a variety of methods for approaching textile design with natural dyes, including mordant painting, resist methods, and overdyeing. We’ll first learn the basics of producing desired color via natural dyes and indigo. We’ll then explore the various methods of producing a resist. Students will have the opportunity to sketch out and plan the design of a textile, using the techniques we have learned, and execute its design in the final weeks of class. Students will leave with a palette of colors in the form of a sample book and at least a yard of fabric they have designed and created. Students will come away with a wealth of knowledge in the possibilities of textile design with natural dyes. Classes are Tuesday evenings.
