Fly Tying 101
This class will prepare the student with hands on experience and an overall understanding of the world of Fly Tying. There is no greater exhilarating experience than catching a beautiful trout on a fly that you tied yourself. As a part of your tuition you will be provided with fly tying kit that you will keep to enjoy a lifetime of satisfaction in the fun fly tying community. You will learn to tie from basic flies to some of the most beautiful flies that will all produce wonderful years of trout fishing. The book we will use is written by Skip Morris titled “FLY TYING MADE CLEAR AND SIMPLE”. The book will be provided by HCC which will have to be returned at the end of the class but you will be encouraged to secure your own copy for future reference. Each class will include a discussion of why we use the fly we are tying and history of the name of the fly. Instructor: Tommy Thomas

Fly Rod Making
Build or restore your own fly rod. Students will have a choice between building a graphite 9 ft. four-piece rod or for an additional cost of around $150 you may choose to build a bamboo rod 7 ft long in a two piece rod with two tips. Methodology of rod building will consist of techniques that are well over 100 years old. All materials will be provided but students are welcome to bring a rod for evaluation and restoration. Woodworking for beginners: Small Table
This course will build on skills students have learned in the previous class and guide them through the construction of a small table of their own design, using basic woodworking tools that are easily accessible.
