Greetings,

Please do not be alarmed if you visit the class registration page and do not see a class that is in the 2020 Tabloid or on your calendar. Due to recent events in relation to Coronavirus (COVID-19) we are taking precautions and have suspended upcoming Continuing Education Creative Art classes. Courses have NOT been canceled, they are simply being rescheduled. We encourage you to visit this webpage daily for upcoming class dates.

Please contact your Instructor when courses continue to be in session.

Do not be alarmed, we will continue to have jewelry, fiber, photography, upholstery, quilting, and woodworking courses continuing in June. Please keep in mind the recommended precaution of consistent and proper hand washing. Please watch the video below as it is very helpful.

Throughout this course, students will garner a strong understanding of basic hand held power tools, as well as expand their abilities with hand tools, while they work to craft a fine side table. Fiber Special Studies Workshop

Required Pre-Requisite: CE Fiber Special Study taught by Amy Putansu during 2020

Fiber Special Studies Workshop is a full day workshop for those that wish to focus on current ongoing projects in their fiber studies at HCC under Amy Putansu. The course is an opportunity for current HCC students that have unfinished or fiber projects that need additional attention in the Creative Arts Building. The 1 day workshop is for those that desire to add the finishing touches in their work as well as receive fine art critique from fellow students and the instructor. Instructor: Amy Putansu.

Beginning Jewelry Fabrication 2

Beginning Jewelry Fabrication 2

This course is a continuation of Beginning Jewelry Fabrication. We will continue to work in 2D design and construction, increasing soldering proficiency with the introduction of butt joints and jump ring forming and we will use mixed metals to create a small sheet of multiple metals that can be used to create a project. At the end of this class students will have created three pieces of finished jewelry: a handmade chain, a band ring and a marriage of metals project. Instructor: Greta Lutman

Intermediate Jewelry: Adding Color

Intermediate Jewelry: Adding Color

This class will focus on exploring ways to incorporate color into jewelry pieces using a variety of techniques and processes, including enameling on silver and copper and anodizing titanium “pieces-parts” that will later be used to create a piece of jewelry. After a variety of samples have been created through the course of the class we will explore ways of cold connecting them into jewelry designs using jump rings, rivets, bezel settings or tab construction. Upon completion students will one or more pieces of jewelry incorporating the colored samples they’ve created.   Instructor: Greta Lutman

Drawing: Foundations

Drawing: Foundations

This course focuses on translating three dimensions to a two-dimensional surface. We will do this by drawing what we see, not what we think we see, in black and white drawing media. Our varied subject matter will be translated to paper utilizing the elements of art. Primary focus on line/contour, shapes as well as conveying value with shading, crosshatching and stippling. Intro to Painting: Acrylics

This course will introduce each student to the joys of painting! Students will learn basics of painting with acrylic paints. Painting from still life, the primary focus will be on color theory as well as best practices to work efficiently and effectively with acrylics. We will discuss color relationships while mixing and blending to soak up the elements of art and transfer subjects onto the canvas! Students must have taken Drawing: Foundations to be in this class. Beaded Necklace

Beaded Necklace

In this class students will learn the basics of making a necklace using beads. We will learn to make clasps, closures, etc. to complete a necklace from beginning to end. The design element is an important part of making a desirable piece of jewelry and will be covered as well. Students will take home a piece of jewelry that may even become an heirloom.
