Rebecca Porche

Professional Crafts Fiber

Class of 2013

Owner of Strand Fiber Studio

Rebecca Porche graduated from the Professional Crafts Fiber program in 2013, just before becoming a mother to a beautiful baby boy. Rebecca’s love for textiles was formed early on, learning to sew from her mother and grandmother. New loves for felting, knitting, book binding, dyeing, and quilting led her to Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in the summer of 2010, where she participated in their work-study program and took classes in felting and dyeing. It was at Arrowmont that Rebecca discovered the Fiber program at HCC. She moved from her hometown of New Orleans, LA in 2011 to be a part of the outstanding Professional Crafts program at Haywood Community College. Here, she cultivated a love for weaving and natural dyes that she continues to explore today. Rebecca’s recent work will be on display at Handmade in America, in downtown Asheville, from January 26- April 17, 2015, alongside the work of 7 other HCC Almuni, in an exhibit entitled Emergence: Crafting an Identity.
